Mai Place

Avocado Salad

Avocado Salad

Mai Place in Canton is where I give a certain person a hard time. Since I can’t hide, I might as well dish it all out to this body language reader that treated me to dinner here. It’s always nice when someone says, “Order anything on the menu honey. I eat everything.”

It took me 20 mins to order the grand meal. Hamachi Kama, Avocado Salad, Sake Sashimi, Ankimo, Washington Maki, Ika Tobiko AE.

Washington Maki

The Japanese food here is never a disappointment. I would not say it’s awesome; but the freshness is there. I can’t really comment about the service since half the employees know me. I wouldn’t be treated like a typical customer. For a server that didn’t know me, I told her that my friend is my husband and she actually believed me. She started being protective of him and telling me that he behaves here when he’s here by himself. Some people are just so fun to mess around with.

Speaking of interesting personalities here, there was a server, that I knew from one of my previous jobs, who came up to me and said “Thank you” at least 20x to me. At first, I had no idea what was that all about. Great, I am appreciated by him! I thought it was weird that he thanked me for establishing a bar from zero to becoming a neighborhood bar.

“Thank you on behalf of the owner!”

How did he know that the owner never said or showed any signs of appreciation?

Coop’s Bar

31 08 2010

I was told that Coop’s near Quincy Center was a dive bar. I seriously don’t see which part of it is dive-E. It’s clean. It’s bright. Doesn’t smell.

What I can’t believe is that they serve $1 Bass! $2 drafts! $2 pizza! I feel like I’m in heaven! A whole night of fun for less than $10! Wooooooo… you will certainly see me here often after I move.

Greasy Breakfast is the Best!

Breakfast #1

Breakfast #1

While I was rolling around in bed this morning, I was thinking about bacon and eggs. All of the sudden, I missed Barry so much! The thought of it surely motivated to leave my cave early and head over to Barry’s Deli in Quincy. I certainly was cutting time short since I ended up only having 10 minutes to eat when the food arrived.

I did my usual – Breakfast #1: sunny side with hash and a side of bacon. I think I’ve been ordering the same thing for over 15 yrs! Yup, I’m loyal to Barry’s and to my food. Till death do us part!

I love their breakfast. Maybe I’m just so used to their style and flavor. I tried the joint down the block once and I was just disgusted. It just didn’t taste the way I like it.

And if you’re wondering, I didn’t finish the whole plate of food. I don’t ever touch the home fries and I never eat more than 1 slice of toast. I should just tell them to hold the fries from now on. I was happily full right before work. ahhhh…

M Bar & Lounge

Wine Cellar

Wine Cellar

The Mandarin Oriental is not my fancy. My 2nd impression of the M bar is the same as the 1st when this first opened. Certainly, the M Bar is hopping in the evening.

We had the Calamari to nibble over drinks. It was tasteless and dry. Asana’s kitchen is really not my style. Just stick to drinks here is the best way to go if you have disposable income. $10 for a shot of SoCo is outrageous.

I’m sorry Mandarin Oriental, I rather hang out at Abe & Louie’s than come here again.

Charles Mark Hotel & Lounge

22 08 2010

I seriously cannot remember if I’ve been here before. I don’t think I did but certain things makes it seem like I’ve been there before. Totally puzzled. Serious brain damage!

Dinner and drinks at the patio of Charles Mark Hotel & Lounge was delightful over a perfect summer evening. It did seemed kind of silly to be eating in Boston while not attending to any of the participating Restaurant Week venues. Well, Restaurant Week is not really worth it anymore anyhow.

Chicken Spring Roll

Chicken Spring Roll

For my dinner here I had chicken spring rolls. I really just wanted to thai sweet chili sauce. My mouth was watering for that as I looked thru the menu. I must say that the spring rolls taste better at a Thai restaurant. Nothing special about this app with no presentation.

It’s more for the atmosphere than the food. On top of that, this place made a dent in my wallet from being a lush.

Radius

22 08 2010

As one of my cousin’s say about me.. I’m drafting a review in my head as I have my meal. It’s quite true. I even take pictures with the review in mind. This time around, I had my Restaurant Week lunch with another cousin. She also loves eating and taking pictures. It’s always more enjoyable when I’m not the only food paparazzi at the table.

I’ve always wanted to try Radius since the first day it opened its door. A regular dinner there is not what I can afford. In the past, I was always too late to book a Restaurant Week reservation. Finally after years, I managed to get to this French restaurant.

Steak Tartare

Steak Tartare

My lunch here started with a Steak Tartare. This starter is very tasty. It went very well with the scallion pancake. I wish it gave more than 2 pieces. Even though I gave one piece to my cousin, 2 pieces is not suffice. Just eating the tartare by itself is a bit salty. As a whole combination, the taste was perfect.

Cumin Scented Cod

Cumin Scented Cod

I had the Cumin Scented Cod for my main course. The crust was where all the taste was on the fillet. I didn’t really tasted much cumin. The salt was overpowering the spice. The cod went well with the couscous where as it was too salty by itself. It was delectable and rich in fish flavor.

 Brown Sugar Brownie

Brown Sugar Brownie

As for the sweet ending, I had the Brown Butter Bownie  – Hold the Caramel Sauce please! The brownie was not too decadent and not too sweet. Perfect! With the side of vanilla ice cream, it gave me the artic chill in a dining room that was blasting AC.

Radius is definitely worth the ratings my friends gave. Too bad I can’t afford fine dining that often!

Wing Dings!

18 08 2010

Wing Dings

What’s better than Buffalo wings? Wing dings with buffalo sauce on the side! $7.95 for a small basket of tasty buffalo wing dings is absolutely ostentatious! I order of this can fill me up.

This is cheaper than Super Chef down the street. Can you believe that? A sit down restaurant is cheaper than a pizza shop? Hancock Tavern is definitely cheap eats! $5 for a burger loaded with steak fries. For the same price, you can get a 10″ cheeze pizza.

Cheap heart attack food is found here!

East Chinatown

15 08 2010

I always forget that East Chinatown doesn’t accept credit cards for under $25. Good thing I had just enough cash for my takeout tonight. If I ordered anything more expensive, I would’ve been SO screwed! Damn Chinese!

Congee

Congee

I was trying to be healthy by ordering a congee. Pork with thousand year old egg (plus addition egg for $1 more). I have no idea if those eggs are even healthy at all. Since I love them, it can’t be healthy at all. Delicious food is never good for you!

Originally, I was planning on eating half and saving the other half for lunch tomorrow. Guess what? I ate the whole quart of congee. It’s just a spontaneous motion to watch TVB, surf the web and eat simultaneously. Before I knew it, it was all gone. I hope I wont get sick in a couple hours.

I plan to go buy myself a package of those thousand year old eggs so I don’t have to spend that extra dollar eat time I order this. One of these days, I’ll make my own congee again. My own congee is the best in the world!!
