Rock Bottom

11 08 2010

I certainly do not know what’s rock bottom at Rock Bottom! It’s your typical American brewery. I just swung by after dinner to meet up with some friends for a drink. The drinks here are decent sized. I didn’t order a beer here since I already started with Greygoose earlier. I’ll try the beer here another time.

The fries here are awesome. I love thin fries. Makes it that much better with truffle oil! Now I know where to go for my fries cravings. yummmmmmm..

Dining at Vapiano

21 07 2010

My friend IM’ed me late last night to ask me if I want to head down to the theatre district to Vapiano for trying their food tonight. Why not? After all, we did say we will try it this week when were there checking out the place last week.

I did get there half an hour early tonight. I really didn’t mean to. I knew I should’ve walked like a turtle from Copley! With half hour to kill, I sat myself down in the lounge area after ordering a Pomegranate Martini. Vapiano’s most distinctive lighting fixture is their chandelier which you can purchase at Savio Lighting. That’s the first thing I noticed as I entered.

As my friends met up with me, it was time for dinner. I went straight to the pasta station to order a Bolognese. I was amused by the way they cooked it.

Induction Cooking

Induction Cooking

I’m sure the Chinese invented pasta; but really – cooking it on a wok too!? They cooked by means of induction cooking methods. I was most certainly visually lost! I know it’s only 2 blocks away from Chinatown; but really!?!? I wanted to take a video of him cooking on the wok; but I don’t think he would appreciate me posting him all over the internet!

After all that flipping and stirring of my pasta, it was placed in a bowl for me to bring back to my table.  This self service concept reminds me so much of an office/school cafeteria. The only difference is that we don’t clean up after ourselves which is typical for self-serve food venues in some other cultures.

Bolognese

Maybe I’m not Chinese enough. Maybe I’m not bananas. I seriously could not finish my bowl of Bolognese. It has this distinctive taste that totally, 100% turned me off! It reminded me of sourdough.

After making a small dent, I finally gave up and got up, brought my bowl back to the pasta station and asked for something else. They were very accommodating and made me a chicken Alfredo.

The chicken Alfredo was 100x times better for my taste buds! Onions. Garlic. Yummmmm…

$10.95 for a single serving of pasta. It’s reasonable. This is definitely not the place to expect to order one entrée and have leftovers for lunch the following day.

Tantric

16 07 2010

I can choose between writing about Tantric or join Cafe World in Facebook. Guess what I chose? My friend can wait to go to next stage!

My friends and I decided to come here because of a coupon/gift certificate she had. I never been, so why not? Well, I’m not a big fan of Indian food. It’s OK once in a while and it’s been a while. Last time I had Indian was back in early April.

Tantric's decor

Tantric has an interesting decor. I never been to India so I am not sure if this is any representation of the culture. It gave me a feeling of trying to put in cultural tradition into modern decor. It was very confusing for my eyes. It was difficult to take pictures of the space since I don’t want patrons to feel that I am invading their privacy.

Overall, the food here is overwhelming in spices and herbs. I prefer Indian food that is more subtle in flavoring. I don’t need a WOW for my taste buds.

If you’re in a rush, this is not the place to be. Our service was wicked slow. Maybe we just don’t deserve decent service! She was a nice gal though.

Being Asian blondes, we should’ve checked the fine prints of the gift certificate before coming in. It’s not valid on what we ordered! Boo!!!!
